Trip Planning Guide

The 2015 Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix will be held September 18 – 20 at the Marina Bay Street Circuit, Singapore. This event is expected to put increased demand on local general aviation traffic and location infrastructure such as hotel accommodations and transportation. It is recommended that hotel rooms and ground transportation be coordinated prior to arrival.

General Event Information

Aircraft planning operations into either Singapore airport, Changi (WSSS) or Seletar (WSSL), in the month of September should plan to give two (2) weeks advance notice before the Formula 1 period to ensure your slots and permits are secured in both airports.

This year, due to parking congestion at Changi (WSSS), only private flights are allowed to land. Private flights only require slots and do not require any permission to land at either airport. Charter flights are required to land and park at Seletar (WSSL) airport only and require a landing permit. Private flights landing at Changi (WSSS) airport to drop off passengers will be required to reposition to Seletar (WSSL) airport for parking.

Landing Permits

Charter aircraft requires an operations and landing permit which requires a minimum of seven (7) days and maximum of 14 days approval for WSSL airport. The following documents should be submitted with the application to expedite approval:

  • Submission of AOC (in pdf)
  • Submission of Airworthiness (in pdf)
  • Submission of Ops Spec (in pdf)
  • Submission Noise Certificate (in pdf)
  • Submission of Aircraft Registration (in pdf)
  • Submission of Insurance (in pdf)
  • Submission of Aircraft Aging program (in pdf) for aircraft age more than 20 years

What is this?

Petty crime is the most likely security concern to affect travelers in Singapore. Singapore strictly enforces local laws, some of which may be a significant departure from laws that travelers may be accustomed to. Maritime piracy is a concern in the waters of Southeast Asia, including areas around the Port of Singapore.

Singapore has stylish hotels near the Marina, shopping strip and along Orchard road. Hotels situated closest to the F1 circuit might be affected by traffic congestion and alternative routes may be in place (e.g. Swissôtel). It is advised to plan ahead, adjust your route and add addition time to your commute. Be aware there is a four (4) night minimum stay at multiple hotels (Thursday-Monday). The rate rule may include full prepayment, non-refundable and non-changeable dates. Rates will have an additional surcharge on top of the normal hotel rates which vary by hotel. The impact on hotel rates appear high – primary event location will see rate increases and inventory compression.

World Fuel | Colt has secured special rates at over a dozen of our four- and five-star preferred hotels, many of which are located near the track. Contact us to assist with your accommodations.

While there are no Singapore-specific regulatory requirements for aviation insurance as there may be in other countries, it is important to maintain a copy of the worldwide insurance certificate both within the aircraft as well as filed with your Trip Support company. Most countries will require a copy of the insurance certificate among other items to file the operation permit. Though no country specific forms may be required, keep these best practice recommendations in mind:

  • Ensure that your insurance will be valid for the entirety of your trip
  • Always carry a copy of your current insurance coverage along with contact numbers for your insurance provider and claims department
  • Keep a copy of the insurance records on file with your Trip Support provider in the case you may need a copy
  • Make sure to read the policy to ensure the geographical territory for which you will visit is a covered territory
  • Confirm coverage specific to the destination(s) you will be visiting with your insurance provider
  • Ensure that your insurance documents are properly signed and authenticated in the case of a ramp check

It is important that both Owners and Operators are aware that it is their responsibility to ensure that adequate coverage exists. If you have questions or concerns about the level of coverage required or required documents, please contact Colt Risk Management Services via email at or +1 281 280 2100.
